The Health Benefits Gained From Roller Skating

While roller skating is an activity that is a lot of fun to do for many reasons, it is also an activity that provides many therapeutic benefits too. When people become active and spend several times a week doing so, they are also using muscles that have become strengthened by the rigorous movements required to roller skate. Roller skating has the capability to return strength to muscles that have been weakened by many diseases.

Roller skating is a very strenuous form of exercise to those that unaccustomed to exercise. Some people decide to forego walks for this because it is an activity that the entire family can participate in, and those who are obese and in need of weight loss prefer to be surrounded by people they know to get the exercise they need. It is more enticing to participate in racing events while wearing roller skates than to participate in exercises such as running.

People that suffer from heart problems find great health benefits from roller skating. It is an activity that has the ability to increase the circulation of blood throughout the body and help build and strengthen the heart which is one of the largest independently operated muscles in the body. Most roller skaters with heart problems will participate in this sport under the advisement of their cardiologist.

There are other health benefits that will become quite evident in people that suffer from depression and social disorders. Roller skating is a sport that draws people out of their shell and gets them to integrate with members of society. People that roller skate on a weekly basis have something to look forward to each week and for people who are depressed, the health benefits will be evident because these patients will participate with more energy and their pleasure will show by the smile that shows on the face.

Various parts of the body benefit from the exercise that roller skating offers. The skating action will rebuild the abdomen muscle structure and help new mothers regain the figure that they had before childbirth, and allow them to keep their child near them while they are exercising. Couples can maintain a fulfilling relationship when they go roller skating together and have a social life again that is as social as they want it to be.

Roller skating can be done at any time of the day, and many couples arrange their schedules so that they can spend an evening out without worrying about it hurting the family budget. A person can gain many health benefits from the calories that they burn up while roller skating and many couples enjoy integrating it into their exercise routines for this particular reason. Many people have compared the physical exertion derived from skating to that found during an aerobics workout, but prefer it more because it does not cause damage to the joints in the body.

Some people might realize that they have problems with their health while roller skating. They will feel twinges of pain in their knees or elbows and seek out a physician to explain the problems that they are having. Some people might find out that they suffer from arthritis or various forms of rheumatism and are astounded that the discovery was made possible by the simple fact that they chose to go roller skating once or twice a week.

Roller Skating - A Fun Activity for the Entire Family

Life today is so busy and complicated. Over the last few decades the family life has deteriorated to the point that family togetherness is not a common occurrence. Families need to be encouraged to find activities that they can do together and have fun! I would like to suggest roller skating as a family and fun activity. All you need is a pair of roller skates and a place to skate and you are ready for a fun activity.

If you happen to live in a cul-de-sac or a very quiet street, the pavement could be used as a skating rink. Just make sure that the children do not venture away from the cul-de-sac or street to a place where they could be in danger. If you are skating on a quiet street, make sure that your children know what to do if a car approaches. If you don't have a quiet place to skate outside your home, what about skating indoors! If you have laminated, wood or concrete flooring in a room that is fairly large, you can easily use that room by pushing all the furniture to the walls or removing the furniture. Sometimes the basement is a great place for this activity. If you don't have a place to skate at your home, you can always go to the rink. Check their schedule and many times you can find very good prices on some of their specials.

As far as finding skates are concerned, go online and search for some used skates. You sometimes can get a good deal of used skates at some of the auction or trade sites on the internet. You could also try visiting the Salvation Army or other used thrift shops. You can even try relatives and friends. They might have some used roller skates in the attic. The difficulty will be finding a pair that is the size that you need. Also, if you are skating outside, make sure the wheel is soft enough for that use. If indoors, there is a little bit more leeway in the hardness or the softness of the wheel. But if you are skating outdoors, make sure the hardness is well under 90A. If you don't know, ask a professional at a skate rink. However, if you want new skates, shop the online stores. But don't buy too cheap a skate. Anything under $50 is usually a skate that will not last. If you want your family to have a good experience, please invest enough into the skates so that they will have a good experience

Finally, make sure that everyone's skates fit well. If the skates fit too tight or too loose, pick another size. Even if the skates were given to you, don't let a family member skate with improper fitting boots. Skates should never rub or make blisters on your feet.

With this bit of advice under your belt, you and your family are ready for an activity you can enjoy together. It can be something your kids will remember the rest of their lives.

Slalom and Slide Roller Skating

Slalom skating is popular in Europe and Asia, and is now drawing more and more attention and interest in the United States and a great many other countries.
As in most of the other disciplines both type of skates are used, the Quad and the Inline roller skates. The Inline skates are the most popular for Slalom skating and are usually configured with full rocker wheel combinations for maneuverability. The skate boot fits very tight and with a strong cuff to give sustaining ankle support.
I have watched Slalom Competitions in total awe, the way the skates move and the balance the skaters demonstrate.

Performing The Freestyle Slalom it is highly recommended that you start the learning process by watching someone else perform and then based on your skating experience start by learning the six basic elements all performed going forward. They are the Parallel (fish), Monoline (snake), Criss Cross, Alternating Cross, Double Cross, and the one foot Slalom. Once you feel that you have the basics down, move forward to learning and perfecting the twenty beginner elements, then the intermediate level of fifteen elements, followed by the advanced level then the Master level. A list of the elements for the different levels can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freestyle_slalom_skating
As with any sport there are established rules that are required and they can be previewed at: http://www.worldslalomseries.com/rules/
The art of Freestyle Slalom Skating is to maneuver thru a prescribed number of cones, set at a certain distance apart as fast as possible while performing the moves to earn judging points. In other words, the Skaters are judged on their Artistic ability and skills while performing tricks through equally spaced cones in a straight line.
Another form of freestyle slalom is known as Slide Skating, as the term indicates the skater performs slides on a smooth flat surface. The slide distance is directly proportional to the amount of pressure being applied to a skaters' foot or feet. Sliding is a form of stylistic skating where the attention is paid to the footwork.
Speed Slalom Skating is the act of maneuvering thru a set cones as fast as possible while on one foot.
Slalom Skating information about events and accomplishments can be found at the web page for the World Slalom Skating Association.
As with any sport the proper equipment makes a difference. A lot of people call the inline skates rollerblades so you just may want to look for rollerblades for sale.
